QUESTIONS LIST:
- noun: naming word
- preposition: shows the relationship/position of the noun/pronoun to the rest of the sentence.
- abbreviations: shortened forms of a word/phrase, said as a full word
- initialism: each letter is pronounced individually.
- acronym: words formed from the 1st/initial letters of words but are said as a full word
- prefixes: found in front of a root word
- suffixes: added to the end of a root word
- active: this voice is clear and straight-forward
- passive: the emphasis is now not on the person or thing performing the action in this voice
- adjectives: describing words
- fyi: for your information (abbreviation)
- adverbs: these words/phrases/clauses answer questions like: where? when? how? how often? why?
- phrase: a few words that do not make sense on their own
- clause: contains a subject and finite verb
- compound: these types of sentences have two main clauses joined with co-ordinating conjunctions
- complex: these types of sentences have a main clause and a dependent clause joined with sub-ordinating conjunctions
- finite: these verbs have a subject and tense
- auxiliary: these verbs are also known as helping verbs (e.g. is/was/will)
- transitive: an object follows directly after this verb
- intransitive: an object does not follow directly after this verb, or there is no object at all
- indirect speech: also known as reported speech
