Biome : A large-scale ecosystem
Climate Zone : A region in which yearly patterns of temperature, rainfall, and sunlight are similar throughout
Tropical Rain Forests : Found near the equator with direct sunlight most of the year, warm temperatures & rain almost daily
Deciduous Forests : Contain trees that shed their leaves once a year & have moderate temperatures & rainfalls
Grasslands : Prairies with moderate temperatures & light rainfall
Deserts : Most deserts are very hot on summer days but temperatures can drop below freezing on winter nights, receive little rainfall
Taiga : A forest of needle-leaved evergreens in Eurasia and North America with long, harsh winters

Freshwater Ecosystems : Lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, some marshes & swamps
Estuaries : A place where a fresh-water river empties into an ocean
