• horizontal : lines that run parallel to the horizon
• vertical : lines that run perpendicular to the horizon
• diagonal : slant at an angle
• straight : have a consistent direction and do not curve
• curved : form gentle or flowing curves
• wavey : mimic natural shapes like water or rolling hills
• spiral : represent expansion and progression
• zigzag : characterized by sharp angles and abrupt changes in direction
• parallel : run side by side at a consistent distance
• perpendicular : intersect at right angles; create a sense of order & organization
• hatching : parallel lines used for shading and creating value
• cross hatching : parallel lines that intersect to create a mesh-like pattern
• outlines : bold and define the outer edges of shapes
• contours : define the outer edges of objects and forms
• broken : made up of dashes or short segments that are spaced apart
• converging : they appear to meet at a single point in the distance
• leading : a winding road in a landscape drawing that capture's the viewer’s eye
• directional : establish a sense of motion or flow and can create a dynamic composition
• thick : precise, well-defined; used to create sharp contrasts (also called hard)
• soft : used to create fine details & can evoke a sense of calm (also called thin)
• radial : extend from a central point outward, directing the viewer’s attention and creating a focal point
• implied : not actually drawn but suggested by the arrangement of other elements
