- inductive approach : usually having no set variables, data is gathered first (opposite of the deductive approach)
- interview : qualitative data, gathered by asking participants questions
- structured interview : interview with pre-decided, ordered questions
- semi-structured interview : interview questions are determined beforehand, but are given in no set order
- unstructured interview : interview where no or few questions are determined beforehand, conversational interview
- focus group : interview where multiple people are questioned at once
- conformity effect : limitation of focus group where members simply agree with other
- naturalistic observation : observation type where people/animals are observed in daily life
- participant observation : researcher is part of group being observed
- non participant observation : researcher not part of group being studied
- reactivity : participants in observation change behavior because they know they are being observed
- likert scale : survey where answers are given in a point scale (e.g. always, regularly, rarely, never)
- response bias : participants change answer to survey or interview to what they believe is "wanted"
