  • chormatic: music that moves by semi tone step, either melodically, or harmonically.
  • diatonic: music that harmonically and melodic follows a key. (lack of many accidentals)
  • dissonant: music that has intervals that clash and are not in the scale.

  • minor: same as major key but with flattened 3rds, 6ths and 7ths. dark and sad sounding.

  • imperfect cadence: chord something (usually 1) to chord v. mus end on the dominant.
  • tonic: 1st note of the scale. the home note.
  • dominant: 5th note of the scale. 2nd most important note
  • sub dominant: 4th note of the scale, or -5 note of the scale ......
  • relative minor: minor key which has the same number of flats/sharps as the major key you are in.
  • relative major: major key which has the same number of flats/sharps as the minor key you are in.
  • pedal: long or repeating note, usually in the bass, often setting up a candence. usually on the dominant or tonic.
  • dominant seventh: major chord with flattened 7th note added.
  • modulation: changing keys during a piece.
  • traidic: music that use the 3 note chords of major and minor keys.
